Zilog Z812RS & EPROM combo 1984 Ceramic & gold DIP NOS USA Seller. This was taken from a working system many years ago - it was in my personal stock. The Z812RS is a ceramic 40 Pin DIP with a built-in socket for an EPROM (Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory) on the top. The top is gold, the pins look like they are beryllium - not tin - they are not corroded or blackened like some would be after this many years. To my knowledge these are not available anywhere else - very rare. The EPROM is plugged in to the socket (I have never removed it) and it looks like it is a 2732D 4K X 8 (NEC).  I think that the label on top of the EPROM could be removed to expose the quartz window for UV lamp erasure. You could also use an EPROM programmer to read the contents of the memory and possibly find more information on where the firmware  came from. I think Zilog had a version of Z8 BASIC which might be loaded into the EPROM but I am not sure. You could also program this using a Z8 assembler. For other specifications, see pictures. I have never used this chip and I have never removed the EPROM from the socket.
