You’re welcome. Even though you never actually said, “Thank you,” you’re welcome for the less expensive .06mm thick Polyimide (aka Kapton) sheets all you 3D printing geeks out there. Who the hell knew you’d take a highly heat resistant film used in the Apollo 11 mission (that was back in 1969, for God’s sake), and use as a build surface in the 21 century? It was designed as a heat shield and insulator for space craft and here you are using it to cover your build plate due those same heat resistant qualities. My guess is you didn’t even realize that ABS, the gooey plastic crap that “extrudes” from your printer adheres quite well to .06 mm polyimide and that it won’t detach as your model cools and shrinks (I can’t even remember the last time I needed to cool and shrink). Oh yeah, this Kapton stuff can also be used to attach thermocouples to 3D extruders. It appears, again, that the heat resistant qualities of the Kapton make it perfect for this job. So, in conclusion, you’re so very welcome for the inexpensive polyimide and the insulin pump and the water filter and the smoke detector and…yeah, you get the idea!
