Antique Copper Wood Advertising PRINTING BLOCK "A. Zeese & Co." Lady & Knight Description Antique Copper Wood PRINTING BLOCK "A. Zeese & Co." Lady w/ Knight in Armor Description: This is a rare collector's item and in my research I found the following information; this Printer's Block was made by A. Zeese and Company out of Chicago. Alexander Zeese was well known among printer's in the US and many foreign lands. Around 1857, he along with 2 others brought the first electrotype foundry to the west. In 1871 he established his business under the name A. Zeese and Company. It is believed A. Zeese's business was closed or was sold in the late 1890's. What an amazing piece of history you can own! This printing block is copper on wood. In those days the blocks were sawed by hand and planed with a hand planer. As you can see A. Zeese & Co. finely detailed the art work in this block. There is a picture of a lady appearing to bless a knight who is bowing down. There is also a stamp in the middle of the knight's shield, "A. Zeese & Co. Chicago" along with the initials "A B" (the B is over the A) in the lower right hand corner. Very unique and rare. Measurements: Approx. 7 1/4" x 4 3/8" Condition: This printer's block has scratches, edge wear, and scuff marks, but still in good condition considering the age. Please consider photos for condition.
