Threshing floor is a type of barn flooring.  It has a look all its’ own and much more rustic than interior house flooring.  It is typically 2? thick (vs. 1? thick from a wall or log house floor) and is most often found in oak, hemlock and pine. Threshing is the process of separating grains which was done in the barn, on the threshing floor, and the look is unmatched.  While it can be used for interior applications, it lends itself wonderfully and is most often used on decks and patios and in garages, workshop and period barn conversions. Like any floor, it can be planed clean, skip planed or kept original.  Most people tend to leave this particular floor either original or skip-planed. Specifications Species: Oak, Pine or Hemlock Width: Random 7-16" Length: Random 4-14' Thickness: 1 3/4-2" While no two reclaimed floors are alike, there are several factors that do effect the end look of a reclaimed floor. We offer a range of services from what we call “raw” to a fully milled and ready to install floor. We do not, however, offer pre-finished or engineered floors. “Raw” flooring is original flooring, either from a house or barn, that is being sold exactly as it was removed from the building (broken tongues, dirt, bird poop and all). Milled floors are all planed to a uniform thickness (from the bottom of the board, so the tops have their original faces), the old tongue and grooves are removed and a new one is put on (or they are “straight-edged”) and the boards are kiln dried. The tops of the boards can be left original, planed or skip-planed. Planing is a less primitive, yet beautiful, finish that will take the board to an even thickness and remove the inconsistencies in the antique boards, yet leave the rich, vibrant patina of the wood. Skip-planing is a process by which only the high spots are taken out of a board. The planer blades “kiss” the top of board, removing high spots to create a more level board, but leaving the original character (namely saw marks) in the lower spots. Skip planing is a very popular option for an easy to lay, flat even board with an undeniable antique look. Please Note: Pictures are representations of raw material through finished product. Price reflects raw material price. However, we offer a full range of services from raw material to ready to install. We also sell reclaimed siding, beams, antique structures (log cabins and timber framed barns), and architectural pieces.
