Oak is one of our most popular floors.  People love the grain that's prevalant in oak and reclaimed oak offers character, age, patina and depth that new wood cannot provide.  Reclaimed flooring is unique in both its’ age and beauty and no two reclaimed floors are alike. These floors will have knots, nail holes and changes in color and patina throughout a board. While the natural patina is often the most beautiful, a reclaimed floor will take any stain. Antique flooring comes from one of two origins:  an "original" board, meaning it was always 1" thick and has years of wear and character on it (this would come most typically come from barns or log homes)  or "resawn", meaning it has been cut from either antique beams or joists. ` Antique flooring made from original boards shows the story created by more than a century’s worth or wear created by people and weather. Milled floors are all planed to a uniform thickness (from the bottom of the board, so the tops have their original faces), the old tongue and grooves are removed and a new one is put on (or they are “straight-edged”) and the boards are kiln dried. The tops of the boards can be left original, planed or skip-planed. Flooring salvaged from barns  (either the siding, interior boards or flooring) that is unaltered is called “dirty top”. This floor literally has a “dirty top” which is not planed to take out the saw marks and inconsistencies created by up to two centuries of weather and wear.  Original and dirty top floors would not have a perfectly flat top. Skip-planing is a process by which only the high spots are taken out of a board. The planer blades “kiss” the top of board, removing high spots to create a more level board, but leaving the original character (namely saw marks) in the lower spots. Skip planing is a very popular option for an easy to lay, flat even board with an undeniable antique look.  Planing is a less primitive, yet beautiful, finish that will take the board to an even thickness and remove the inconsistencies in the antique boards, yet leave the rich, vibrant patina of the wood Specifications Species: Oak Width: Random 5-14" Length: Random 4-14' Thickness: 3/4-4/4"  Please Note: Pictures are representations of raw material through finished product.
