This is a replacement part for the Boston Model 18 or a Model 19 electric pencil sharpener. This will NOT work on a Model 17 sharpener - I am selling that part on another listing. Please look at the photos for size reference (2 1/8" diameter) and sharpener models supported. Installation instructions and tips are at http://bostonhuntmodel18.blogspot.com/ This is a low-cost, home-brew solution to repairing your broken pencil sharpener. Many do-it-yourselfers have already given feedback that it was simple to replace and they are up and running again. There is no 'gamble' involved. If this is not going to work for you, contact me to arrange a return/refund. If you have ordered the wrong size in error just contact me for an exchange. I will be glad to assist with repairs in any way I can support you. I will go the distance on any support and advice it takes go get you running but your are not 'forced' to let me troubleshoot if you want an outright refund. This is as close as it gets to 'try before you buy' here on eBay. I have confirmed that this also works with Boston Model 19 electric pencil sharpeners. This was a full test, not just a fit-check and it works! I make no claim that they are 'the same' but they are interchangable and we have received feedback that this has worked on both Models 18 and 19. The gear is about 2" 1/8 in diameter. After years of aging this gear is known to become brittle and break. This is a replica based on an original part, but is made from material that is much more durable. This item will typically fit snugly as have many of the originals that have been in use. Because the cutter/carrier shaft that the gear fits on is notched, many have inquired about availability of a retaining clip. So far, I have not seen a clip in any of the units I have serivced, but one will be provided so you can use it at your descretion. The photo for this listing front and back views of a gear. The unit pricing is for a single gear. Item is not the exact one shown in the picture but size/form/material is the same. There may be minor imperfections (small air bubbles) that are not critical to functionality. UPDATE: the back of this gear is solid and does not have the undercut/hub as an original part does. This change was made to improve quality and durability. The 'front' side collar and shaft-mount (center of gear) and teeth are what is critical to making this work properly and that has been replicated in this revision. Colors may vary from photo and are not an indication of material grade or an effect on functionality. This is a 'buy it now' listing for your convenience - no bidding or waiting.
