Lab-Line Instruments 846 Biotronette Mark III Environmental Chamber   For sale- a Lab-Line Instruments Model 846 Biotronette Mark III Environmental Chamber.  The chamber is in good physical condition overall, and it powers up as I think you can see in the pictures.  Cosmetically the worst thing you can say about it is it is missing some paint on the right side where another item rubbed up against it on the way home from surplus.  So that was my doing.  Didn’t realize it until I already took the pictures, about 3 inches wide and an inch high, you could touch it up with some spray paint and I doubt anyone would ever notice.  Of all the various lights only the front fluorescent lamps came on initially but at some point the back ones came on too so maybe the tubes just need replacing.  All of the incandescent bulbs were burned out, but I have checked (and tightened) the sockets, and with a new bulb they work fine.  No incandescents are currently installed.   When the thermostat is turned up the indicator light comes on and it sounds like a relay clicks.  When you turn it down it clicks off.  You can see where the thermostatic sensor is inside the thing, but what I cannot see is whether there is any sort of heat source built into the thing.  Are the incandescent lights the heat source?  I wasn’t sure the timer was working, but it appears to be, it just moves really slow because it’s a 24 hour timer and it doesn’t make the customary ticking noise.  The only issue that I found during my inspection is that the fan didn’t come on when the switch was turned on.  I thought maybe that was a timer thing or possibly just good old operator error.  But I pulled the thing about half way out of the trailer to get pictures of another piece and when I did the fan came to life.  I turned it off, but once the thing was loaded back in the trailer again it wouldn’t come on again.   So I took the top off the thing, only takes a few minutes with a screw gun.  The blower assembly is a Dayton 4C440, I see a new one being offered currently on ebay for less than $80 delivered, and a used one for less than that.  What I noticed in looking at those is the label says it should be oiled once every six months.  Now I don’t know about you, but if I am operating an environmental chamber with a fan buried inside it, it isn’t going to occur to me to yank the top to oil the blower.  But having yanked the top already I decided to oil the blower.  So now it works again.  I have let it run for an hour.  Turned it on and off again.  Works fine but it could get to you and be done.  Hopefully the lubrication is all it needed.  If not you will need to replace the fan.   That is the extent of my testing and NO warranty is offered.  HOWEVER, IF you pay the asking price and find it has a problem you cannot live with within 14 days of receipt you may return it.  Returns are ONLY allowed on Buy It Now Purchases.  Accepted Best Offers are strictly an as is sale, no returns allowed.  Return would be for a refund of the purchase price, not including shipping costs.   Just so that we are clear on that, this is an item that has not been thoroughly tested.  As such it may work fine or it may have problems, so any purchase entails a certain degree of risk.  If you Buy It Now your risk is limited to the shipping costs both ways.  If you submit an offer you do so knowing that you cannot return it.  In either case it is up to you to decide whether the risk level is acceptable to you, and if not you need to pass on this particular item.   There are a couple of other Biotronettes currently listed, but the switches and the timer on mine look much newer.  There are some nicks to the middle edge of one of the sliding glass doors but none of any real consequence.  There is an opaque cover for the front to keep light out, it is stored on the back and is included.  Please note that I took pictures of this thing ages ago with a new camera and I guess the resolution was factory set too high, the pictures won’t load to ebay.  So I finally took pictures of the pictures on my monitor at a lower res setting.  When I placed the unit in storage it went way up on top of the rack and getting it down to take new pictures would waste a couple of hours minimum.  So that is why you see the Samsung logo at the bottom of many of the pictures.   Please check out my other listings for more interesting lab, test, and optical equipment.  Check back often!   Sold as is, as described, as pictured.  Potential buyers are asked to please make sure you have read the listing carefully, and understand what you are buying.  Ebay’s condition codes for used items, which I am now required to select from, might imply a degree of functionality that my limited time, knowledge, and facilities do not allow me to ascertain.  If the functional condition of the item is known it will be stated as such in the listing.  Unless a warranty is specifically offered returns are not accepted regardless of any implied functionality.   You are also encouraged to visit my “ME” page, where my terms, conditions, and philosophy of doing business are outlined.  I don’t think anything there is outside the bounds of normal e-commerce, but they are binding on the transaction.   Shipping will be motor freight on a pallet unless you would like to come pick it up.  I would estimate the shipping weight at less than 200 pounds, but because of the size it will get charged for 300 pounds.  “Dimensional weight:”  I would estimate the freight cost for that at between $200 and $400 to the east and west coast respectively.  Residential deliveries, deliveries that require liftgates, deliveries to the boonies, and deliveries to schools or universities will all be more because it takes longer for the carrier to get the job done.  Shipping will be via Old Dominion Freight Lines, which has done a consistently good job getting my shipments where they are going without roughing them up.  I will be happy to quote you for the shipment, but I need to know the zip code, residential or commercial, and whether a lift gate will be required.   If you would prefer to use another carrier that’s fine .  It will be shipping from a warehouse with a forklift in zip code 23093, but I do not live there!  I require pickup confirmation the day before and your carrier must provide an emailed printable copy of the Bill of Lading so that there is paperwork available for the driver to sign when he gets there.  The BOL should have all the info filled out when I receive it, blank copies are unacceptable.   I can ship this to Canada via Old Dominion, but they do not offer customs brokerage services, so you would need to have your own customs broker lined up before it shipped.
