This is a photographic lantern slide, black and white, labeled, "Rolling a Slab into Thin Plate, Pittsburgh, Pa." There were thirty-two rolling-mills in Pittsburgh and Allegheny county in 1876, four of which make steel as well as iron. There were nine other establishments which make only steel. The Edgar Thomson Bessemer steel works, completed in 1875, occupy the site of Braddock's Field.
