It provides reliable, smooth operation when feeding printers that start and stop instantaneously, but run at a steady speed during normal operation. Simple chucks that spin freely hold rolls. The rolls are surface-driven by belts, thus needing only a relatively low power drive motor and ordinary electrical power.
