Coherent Radius laser with custom single mode fiber. This is a custom 20mw -640nm Radius laser made by Coherent Inc. The laser is not a cheap import but made in California with glass (not plastic) optics, Peltier TEC cooling, heat sink with fan, shutter and on/off switch. Any one who works with laser diodes knows that heat causes instability – such as the small changes in the wavelength. This laser is stable. The laser has been modified to allow a precision fiber launch assembly to attach to the front of laser head. The requirements for single mode fiber launching can be pretty stringent – the core of the fiber is around 4 1/2 microns. These launch assemblies can be expensive. Normally the output of a laser diode is not very “pretty” - they are usually just the rectangular diode emitter face collimated and re-imaged. There are few ways to make it real nice and round -one way to make it “pretty” is to launch the beam into a single mode fiber – the output is then transformed into a really nice, round Gaussian beam. The fiber also allows the experimenter to get the light to the experiment. This would be a nice addition to any lab. No international bids excepted, no international shipping and no returns on this.
