Tired of spraying your vineyard with a 3 or 4 gallon backpack sprayer?  Are you the type to build or fix your own equipment?  Do you have a lawn tractor, a trailer wagon, and a backpack leaf blower?  Then why not build your own vineyard sprayer for under $350. Cut your spraying time in half or less!  Ride on your lawn tractor rather than walk with a 25-35 pound backpack.  Mix your spray fewer times (I use a 15 gallon tank).  Additionally, the sprayer is easily disassembled for storage.  The 27-page Assembly Instructions provide step-by-step instructions and over 25 drawings and photos for building it right the first time.    The Kit includes approximately 80 items to make the job easy (some parts would be hard to find at local retail outlets).  You will need a lawn tractor (or similar), a trailer wagon or cart (for the lawn tractor), a gasoline-powered backpack leaf blower, a sprayer tank/pump/hose, and a few miscellaneous items.  If you have the first three items, then the only big purchase item will be the sprayer tank with electric pump and hose.  I purchased my 15 gallon sprayer with a 12 volt electric pump and hose/sprayer wand for under $100 (I suggest a readily available source). In addition to the kit you’ll need to purchase some PVC pipe, ABS pipe, and appropriate pipe cement.  Depending on your own supply bin, you may or may not need to purchase some plywood (scraps), four wood post (1 1/2 ” square by one foot or so), duct tape and electrical tape.  A battery for the sprayer pump would be optional: either use a separate battery or connect to lawn tractor battery.  The operation of the Sprayer is easy.  Assemble your sprayer into the trailer wagon with your backpack leaf blower, mix your spray, and you are ready. Before starting down the first row and, if necessary, adjust the height of the three sprayer nozzles. Now start your leaf blower and switch on the pump.  The blower-tube will shake the vine foliage to provide good spray coverage. At the end of the row, turn off the pump (using a switch provided in the kit), make the U-turn for the next row and turn the pump back on.   For storage, pull the snap Tees off and store the tank/pump and sprayer nozzles together (see photo).  Copyrights © 2015 Umpqua Valley Vineyard Sprayer All Rights Reserved
