Vintage Challenge Windmill Model 27 Tail Vane Galvanized Steel - In Batavia, Il

US $300.00

  • Batavia, Illinois, United States

For sale is a vintage tail vane assembly from the classic Challenge No. 27 self-lubricating windmill. This particular vane had the original buyer/destination printed on the vane along with the typical logo. You may notice that the "C' is faded, that is because it was originally painted in a red color which was known to fade faster than the black.  There are a few old bullet holes in the sheet metal which is extremely common & doesn't negatively affect the value- in fact, I was told that buyers are suspicious of vanes that have no bullet holes due to reproductions. Overall condition is good considering its age combined with a long life outside in Nebraska. The Model 27 was the last 'top of the line' model by Challenge and was made from the 1927 through the start of the WWII. Even as recently as the 80's they were, "still used by thousands across the United States... Many famers and ranchers still swore by their old Challenge 27 mills and depended on them for their sole water supply." It was the most successful windmill produced in the U.S.  This would be a great candidate as a part for an old windmill restoration or just a unique conversation piece to display on your property, business, house or garage.  Item is for pick-up only in Batavia, IL. Shipping arrangements can be discussed with the seller and will be considered but likely handled outside of the auction.
