1/2-Hp PARSELL & WEED ENGINE KIT 1/3-Scale HORIZONTAL Model Engine Construction Kit Includes Silicon-Bronze Castings, Plans, and sundries (see complete list below) A metal lathe and a milling machine are needed to machine these castings as well as other parts made from bronze, brass, steel, and aluminum. The resulting engine is a working piece of art and a joy to watch. The Parsell & Weed, 1/2-Hp Engine was offered in kit and completed form in the early 1900's by Parsell & Weed's Franklin Model Shop in New York City. It was also featured in their book GAS ENGINE CONSTRUCTION detailing the construction of a working, 1/2-Hp engine using only a metal lathe and hand tools. The model kit offered here is an approximate 1/3-scale replica, that when complete, should run like the original. Careful work to close tolerances are required for the construction of this kit. The 1/3-scale Parsell & Weed horizontal engine kit was originally offered in the early-mid 1990's. The vertical version was designed and patterns made; however, it was never offered publicly. In 2013, Littlelocos Model Engineering purchased the original patterns, CAD files, etc. and has now completed an extensive effort to refine and redraw the model engine design, as well as completely rework the original foundry patterns. This extensive effort has resulted in what we feel is one of the nicest stationary gas engine kits on the market. We hope you'll agree.
