The “Caterpillar” Diesel D-4 Tractor, originally published by Caterpillar Tractor Co., Peoria, Illinois, 1939. Reprinted by Nation Builder Books, Mebane, NC, 2009. 8 1/2 x 11 paperback, 31 pages. This is a new, photoduplicated reproduction of the original ad. There was a lot of yellow in the original, and to reproduce it all in color would have made the reproduction much more expensive than is. What I decided to do was copy everything in black and white on white paper, and reproduce only the covers in color. I figured that at least you can get a copy of this wonderful piece of Cat memorabilia, the original of which, as you know, would easily fetch much more than $100.00, probably more like $200.00 On the other hand, the various photos and drawings of the Cat D-4 and its components come out very clear, and should be of tremendous aid to anyone do a restoration of one of these venerable old Cats. Just to be clear, let me reiterate that this is an advertisement for the 1939 Cat Diesel D-4. It is NOT an operator’s manual, or a service manual, or a parts list. This is just an advertisement, chock full of great pics and illustrations that will warm the heart of any collector of Caterpillar, or construction machinery. Please note that this is a PHOTOCOPIED reproduction of the 1939 original. The accompanying images were scanned from a reprint, not the original.
