LeBlond Lathes Turn the World Over, by R.K. LeBlond Machine Tool Co., Cincinnati, OH. Original not dated, but layout design strongly suggests late 1940s or early 1950s. Reproduced by Nation Builder Books, Mebane, NC, 2012. 8 1/2 x 11 paperback, 19 pages. Please note this is a reproduction, not an original. In this 19-page catalog you get two full pages of LeBlond’s famous Regal lathes, some of the most sought after used engine lathes in the USA today. Regal lathes are simple designs, famous for ease of operation and repair. They are a medium duty lathe, neither too light nor too heavy duty for general, all-purpose machining. A surviving LeBlond company still offers full support, including documentation, for most any age and model machine. For these reasons, the LeBlond Regal lathe is quite possibly the world’s most popular general purpose engine lathe. The booklet begins with a page of pictures of “Important features of LeBlond Heavy Duty Engine Lathes”: Three bearing spindle; Quiet, powerful headstock; Standard spindle nose; Enclosed feed box (on 40’’ and 50’’ models); One piece apron; Thrust lock tailstock; Flame hardened steel bed ways. The next page is a great photo of a 12’’ heavy duty geared head engine lathe, with all the specifications given for 12’’, 14’’, 16’’ and 18’’ swing sizes. Then you get pictures of some of the big machines: a 25’’ engine lathe, and a 50’’ engine lathe. One page shows and discusses LeBlond Tool Room Lathes, with swings from 12’’ to 18’’. Then there is a page devoted to the “New LeBlond Dual-Drive” providing two spindle speed ranges. The next two pages show LeBlond’s Hollow Spindle Lathes; Sliding Bed Gap Lathes; and Plain Bed Gap Lathes. Then the two pages on LeBlond’s Regal lathes, and Regal gap lathes. Next are two pages showing LeBlond’s Rapid Production Lathes in 13’’, 17’’ and 20’’ swing sizes, with a few drawings of components. That’s followed by a page covering the No. 2 Cutter Grinder and accessories, and a page on Automatic Lathes 12’’ and 16’’. The last four pages are devoted to LeBlonde’s No. 1 Crankshaft Lathe, and 26’’ and 36’’ Universal Crankshaft Lathe – very interesting machines, designed for the rapid production of crankshafts where the design requires extensive checking, or where no two pins are in the same plane. The back cover lists the names and locations of three direct sales offices, over 40 North American distributors, and nearly 30 international distributors.
