Cobalt Blue lenses have been used to filter Annoying Yellows, Oranges and Reds for centuries...From Glass Blowers to Photographers... They absorb much of the excess light from the red/orange/yellow spectrum that can cause visual clarity issues. These lenses are excellent for torchwork, cutting, brazing and other jobs where the extremely bright yellows and oranges inhibit visual clarity of the work. These lenses can also be used as a drop in welding lens and back filter to filter out more of the IR than your standard lens alone will accomodate. If used as a drop in, it will add 1 full shade in DIN. If you normally wear a shade 10, you would add this to a shade 9 (depending on the welder) to give you the equivalent to shade 10 and will not sacrifice UV protection if used with a gold or silver sputtered lens. However, these are not as potent as the Plastic drop in's I carry and the difference in color will be far more subtle. Clarity will be increased by filtering the yellow/orange/red.. but the difference in color will not be as bold or intense. Again, These are shade 4 suitable for most torch and brazing operations. HOWEVER, They CAN be used as a drop in lens or back filter for infrared, very similar to the plastic drop in's. BUT.. these register more as a difference in shade by 1 full DIN shade. Therefore, If you normally weld with a shade 10... You would want a shade 9 while using this to increase clarity by absorbing the IR transmittance. These work VERY GOOD for this purpose, BUT are not QUITE as good as the Plastic IR filter/ drop in's. These will not change the color of the Welding Lens quite as dramatically. The color will be more subtle blue and not as strikingly bold or intense.   Shade 4 COBALT BLUE  IR FILTER LENS. Standard 2" x 4-1/4" (50mm x 108mm) .  DO NOT USE ALONE FOR ARC WELDING PROCESSES OR PERMANENT EYE DAMAGE INCLUDING BLINDNESS CAN AND MOST LIKELY WILL OCCUR. THESE LENSES ARE SUITABLE AS STAND ALONE LENSES FOR TORCH AND FURNACE WORK... BUT ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR ARC WELDING UNLESS USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH AN APPROVED "ARC WELDING" FILTER LENS. THESE WILL NOT ABSORB OR REFLECT THE VAST AMOUNTS OF HARMFUL UV RADIATION IN ARC WELDING.  These are NOT manufactured from a Z87.1 approved material. These are certified EN/CE European Standards. YOU MUST, wear approved eye protection and Z87.1 approved Polycarbonate clear lenses on each side (front and back) of your welding hood. Neither seller nor manufacturer shall be held liable for any eye damage or injury sustained from improper use.
