I have no idea how this works, but an electrician I know was able to power it on and check to see that all the basic functionalities, such as the knobs , the LCD display and the various menus on it all work, which they do. it was not actually tested in a practical application, such as tracing a circuit or anything, but, while the electrician checking it out for me had never held one of these in his hands before, his reaction was, "WOW!
