1981 dated Marsh Instrument Company Fire System Gauge. These gauges must be removed working or not every 5-7 years depending on local laws. The date is so the Fire Inspector can tell how long the gauge has been in service.

Here is a 1985 dated. (You can see the manufacture date by looking in the lower right hand side of the face and see the 85) That is so the Fire Inspector knows how long the gauge has been in service. Working or not the gauge must be changed every 5-7 years.
