3M Dynatel 735 Open/Split Cable Fault Locator Comes with a copy of the manual and what you see in the pictures. If you don't see it, you probably wont get it. Specifications are not from Dynatel and may vary slightly due to upgrades, options or revisions this unit may or may not have. Does not come with the batteries. Description: This portable, battery-operated test set is designed for fast, simple location of opens or series faults on any shielded or unshielded telephone cable or pairs up to 100,000 feet long. The accuracy of this tester is +/- 1%, and it will test cables with capacitances from 0.030 µF/MILE to .100 µF/MILE The unique features of the 735 is its ability to locate an open on a conductor with a resistive fault or a foreign voltage. A simple "line test" determines whether the faulted conductor can be tested, and if the fault is resistive, or if it has induced AC or DC battery cross voltage. The condition of the faulted conductor is indicated by the line test procedure as follows: Whenthe line test meter indicates "CLEAR", the 735 can located open faults - even in the presence of a resistive fault - without resitriction. Measurement accuracy is within 1%. If the line test meter indicates "LONG", the conductor may have a severe resistive fault. Even so, the 735 can locate the open fault. However, measurement accuracy is reduced, and the measured fault distance may be up to 10% more than the actual fault distance. The amount of error can be estimated. If the line test meter indicates in one of the red "FAULT" zones, the conductor has resistive fault so severe that no test can be made. However, under special conditions, the 735 can tolerate very severe faults and still measure the fault distance accurately. For this purpose the 735 MULTIPLY BY selector has two positions labeled 10 SPECIAL and 100 SPECIAL. If the line test indication is in one of the two red zones, the MULTIPLY BY switch can be set to one of the SPECIAL ranges. Then, if the line test meter needle swings to a LONG or a CLEAR zone, the fault can be located. Specific line test and fault location procedures for the SPECIAL ranges are given in the manual. The 735 can locate open faults in either the tip or the ring conductor individually. The WHITE and RED or YELLOW and BLACK clips can be used. (Note: If both conductors in the pair are open, then only the shorter of the two distance measurements is valid. Disregard the longer measurement. The 735 located opens dues to splicing errors, mechanical damage, parted conductors and electrolytic action. It also detects opens in a bridgetapped (branch) cicuits. The 735 has a built-in self-test circuit, to confirm proper operation. The Model 735 will also locate splits. When the split pairs have been identified, the distance to the split and the distance from the far end to the split can be displayed on the 735 with an accuracy of +/- 1%. Due to cable variations, this tolerance may go as high as +/- 15% in the field. If the 735 is measuring conductors in a straight-section, the section will be measured with an accuracy of +/- 1%. If there are bridge taps, build out capacitors or lattice networks, additional steps must be taken as described in the manual The Model 735 will also locate multiple splits where these occur. The technique for locating this type of split is similar to the normal method, but the conductors affected must be identified first. Where corrected splits occur, the test set will measure the distance between the splits; this will not tell the operator where the splits are located. To locate the splits, the cable must be opened between them and measurements made in both directions. This unit is a lightweight, solid-state test set powered by two 6-volt NEDA-type lantern batteries.
