54" Gerber Solara UV2 Flatbed Printer. This printer lived a pampered life. It's one and only owner was a State Run Facility in Ohio called Ability works that exists primarily to provide jobs for the mentally handicap. Because the machine was owned by the state, they not only paid over $60,000.00, but they had opted for the additional motorized take up reel which is great when printing vinyl, several sets of Ink, cords, solvents, even a backup part that accepts the ink and releases it into the machine (I forget the name of that particular part). Also, they once had the UV curing bulb burn out so they bought 4, so it comes with 3 extras (Only the state throws money around like that). They also had a service contract which included a weekly visit from a Tech to make sure everything was 100%. They had that service contract because they only used it about once a week, and didn't want any issues with ink drying up. For all these reasons I'd say this printer lived a very pampered life. If you look at the pictures, you'll see the machine looks practically brand new. The previous manager of the facility that owned it showed me a video of it printing a large run of vinyl. The reason I saw the video is they had their service tech remove all ink and flush with solvent. I have not run any prints because I primarily run the Edge printer and don't have the room. Just before I took pictures, I powered it up. Runs very quietly. Only 2 issues to mention. After I powered it up it gave me a error about the pinch wheel not being properly aligned. My 52" Gerber Odyssey plotter has the same keypad and has given me similar errors in the past. It was just a adjustment to the size of material in the machine. I don't believe it's anything more than that, but I don't know the machine enough to say with certainty. The only other negative is I couldn't fit the flatbed tables in my truck. They are just a aluminum frame that long material sits on to feed into the machine. If this was very important I could make a similar set out of steel studs. I think a few saw horses would do the trick. This machine can directly print on hundreds of media or material. In flatbed mode it will print on metal, wood, plastics. Really anything flat and up to 1/2" thick can be printed directly on the material. To switch to vinyl, paper, banners, wallpaper, or anything on a roll, simply slide the roll on the material pole in the back, and go to lunch because the UV bulb cures the ink so it comes out dry, and the takeup reel collects the material. What can't this thing do? I can't be fixed by Gerber without spending a fortune. That's if they'll fix it at all. Gerber has switched to a policy of selling service contracts. Basically paying them in advance for service you may or may not need. This machine is your insurance that your current machine stays running or it's your new money maker. Call with questions. Everyone wants a printer now that prints directly on the material, so don't sit on this one!! Thanks for looking .
