The Faverolles is a French breed of chicken developed in the 1860s in north-central France, in the vicinity of the villages of Houdan and Faverolles. The breed was given the name of the latter village and, therefore, the singular is also Faverolles, not Faverolle.  Faverolles were originally developed as a utility fowl, used for both eggs and meat but are now primarily raised for exhibition. Faverolles are classified as a heavy breed and have a beard, muffs, feathered feet and five toes per foot, rather than the usual four. They are well adapted both to confinement or free range.  Hens are good winter layers of medium-sized, light brown to pinkish eggs. Some cocks are the quietest of all breeds and Faverolles are also known for their extreme docility. As a result, they tend to get bullied in a mixed flock for being so gentle and friendly. Because of their gentleness Faverolles have become a popular breed of chicken to keep as a pet, especially for children. They are also enjoying increasing popularity with people who keep small home flocks. Faverolles are considered to be very good layers, a well-cared for Faverolles hen will lay approximately four eggs per week.   Our flock consists of large Salmon and Blue Salmon Faverolles roosters over Blue Salmon and Salmon Faverolles hens.  This pairing can give Blue Salmon, Salmon and Splash Salmon Faverolles chicks.   Pros: Docile and extremely friendly birds Excellent breed for colder climates Typically steady layer through the winter.   Cons: Hens tend to go broody after their first year.   Eggs are wrapped individually and shipped 'fat end up' to help keep the air cell stable during transit.  Eggs are shipped Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and will be processed in the order they were received.    Specific ship date requests should be placed in your order notes and will be honored as the hens allow.  If there is a day that you DO NOT want your eggs shipped, please include that information in the order notes as well. We request all hatching eggs be picked up at your local post office to reduce shipping trauma.  PLEASE supply a phone number if you want your eggs addressed in this manner.  All eggs are shipped USPS Priority Mail and typically arrive 2 to 3 days after shipping.  Please understand that even though we might address a box "HOLD AT POST OFFICE", it might still be delivered to your door.  This is out of our control. We ship the freshest eggs possible and package in a manner that will limit the chance of breakage or damage.  We do not guarantee hatch rates due to factors that are out of our control such as rough handling, incubator error, etc.
