1904-1910 Buff & Buff Mfg Co Boston Surveyor Level (Transit) Serial #7225  Great Display Quality Good Condition Original Dove Tailed Box in Fair Condition 18-22"x 8.5"x 4.5",  11 pounds REDUCED! Terrific 1904-1910 Buff & Buff Boston Surveyor's Level in original box. Awesome display quality. Made of brass & scope is covered in a textured black paint giving it a faux leather look on scope, the Level has a great antique look & would compliment any room or collection. An eBay member informed me that this was a surveyor's level and not technically a transit. However, most items like this are called a transit or a transit-level on eBay and I am not an expert.  So, I used both terms to identify. Call what you wish, it is very nice. Does not get much better or rarer.  I have not seen an older one sell in a while, at least not on eBay or common sites.  The last one even close was around $500, but this is much older & rarer. Everything seems to work fine.  The lens are clear & in good shape.  The built -in glass level under scope also is in great shape and works well.  All knobs turn and function as designed. There are some paint scuffs on scope as shown in pictures & the lens glare deflector has paint loss. The original dove tailed box has some wear from age & is missing part of one strap, but is fairly solid and keeps the item safe. I only gently cleaned item after I bought it, so you may want to give it a complete once over. I also left a former owner's company sticker on it. There is a wood split in cabinet lid, but it does not effect its use or appeal. Measures roughly 18"-22" (with or without lens extended) x 8.5" highx 4.5" at the base. It weighs about 11 pounds & the box another 8 pounds. So I figured around 23 pounds to ship with proper packing. I am starting auction at a fair price as this is in the first 7250 ever made by Buff & Buff Mfg Co. You just do not see them, especially this nice.  I do not know the exact age, as I could not find a serial number by date catalog or archive.  The company began in 1898.  I found a 1916 one, but it had a serial number of 18829. I took as many pictures as Ebay would allow for your consideration. We ship with utmost care and speed. See our feedback & check out our store. I have a nice Transit listed as well, Keuffel & Essen's from 1906 (JUST SOLD). I am starting at a fair price based on rarity & age of piece as well as condition.
