Item Description This is a cheap wood frame microscope with plastic lenses. It is used but in working condition. It uses a mirror so a lamp or flashlight is needed for light. It comes with a single prepared slide, of either a silk worm larva, a beetle egg, or silk fiber (my random choice). It comes with printed instructions, in a resealable plastic bag. It appears directed at school pupils, and the instructions are dated 1969. I would guess it is of Asian manufacture although AS & E was based in Cambridge, MA. This is a cheap microscope but is fairly easy to use. Small kids will need parental help the first few times. Be warned the slide is glass: it can break and cut skin. Also note the microscope could be pulled apart by a curious child. I taped the slide down to the microscope for 2 reasons: 1. to protect it in transport, and 2. I lined it up so you can see something first time you focus (some of the specimens are a little hard to find initially). If the eyepiece is left off, the microscope is 30 power. If attached at the top then 100 power. The images are bad, as expected from a cheap wood and plastic toy. But the microscope is offered very cheap. The above microscopic photos were taken with a point and shoot camera held to the eyepiece, while using a headlamp for illumination (good lighting helps some). They show the slides included (just one per microscope). - Ideal: as a toy microscope for 5 to 10 year old kids, if an adult is willing to help out. - The price is right: $4, plus at cost shipping - Photos are of the actual microscope you’ll receive.
