MADE BY ASKANIA, WEST GERMANY ( AT THE TIME WHEN THERE WERE TWO GERMANIES DURING "THE "COLD WAR". THE MAKER REFERRED TO THIS SURVEYORS' INSTRUMENT AS A THEODOLITE - OPTICAL TRANSIT. WE HAVE ALSO HEARD IT DESCRIBED AS A " BUILDERS LEVEL ", AS THIS RARE ASKANIA VARIATION DOES NOT READ ASIMUTH. THE INSTRUMENT IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION WITH SOME MINOR ABRASION OF THE ENAMEL, AND A SMALL DENT IN THE METAL COVER. THE TELESCOPE STILL PROVIDES A SPECTACULAR BRIGHT, CLEAR VIEW INCLUDING THE CRISP RETICLE ! THIS DESIGN PROVIDES AN ERECT IMAGE, NOT INVERTED.
