For your consideration, I am offering this Civil Defense CDV-700 Model 6B Geiger counter with the original style headphones, shoulder strap, instruction and maintenance manual and handbook. The Geiger counter was manufactured by the Victoreen Instrument Company.  The Victoreen Instrument Company, along with a few other companies, manufactured these Geiger counters for the United States Department of Defense, Office of Civilian Defense.  They were distributed to municipalities and schools across the United States for preparation and training during the Cold War.  A time when tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union were high and a neuclear war was a possibility.  These Geiger counters were stored in nuclear fallout shelters and used in schools to teach students about nuclear radiation and how to use radiation monitoring instruments. This particular meter came from the Maricopa County, Arizona Department of Emergency Management.  Most likely it came from somewhere in the Phoenix Metro area.   The CDV-700 Geiger counter is a low level radiation instrument used to measure levels of Gama radiation and to detect the presence Beta radiation. Conditionaly it is in good excellent condition. There are very few minor chips, scratches and scuffs in the paint. The meter lens has a small scuff mark at the lower portion. I tried to photograph all of these conditions. The inside is very clean, and has NO corrosion from leaking batteries. The meter detects on all selections. I won't guarantee the accuracy of the meter as it probably should be calibrated. The head phone jack is operational. The meter requires four D size batteries to operate. The batteries are not included. The instruction and maintenance manual is printed for this meter and manufacture and is dated 1962. The other book is titled "Handbook for Radiological Monitors". It was printed in April of 1963 by the Department of Defense, Office of Civil Defense. In general, it gives guidelines for the use of radiological monitoring instruments, and safety measures while monitoring radiation. This meter and it's accessories will ship in a U.S. Postal Service medium Priority Mail flat rate box.
