Top Bar Hives (TBH) are by far the easiest way for a home hobbyist beekeeper to keep bees. It is a more natural environment for the bees, it requires little lifting and the hive is at a comfortable working height.  It's great for young and old and is easily kept by those with disabilities. A TBH requires little to no investment after the sale, there are no honey supers to purchase, no frames or foundation and TBH's require little care. A TBH is easily started with package bees, a swarm or the top bars can be placed in a standard Langstroth Hive to start a colony then moved to the TBH. The bees will naturally build out the honey comb and fill it with pollen, eggs and honey. As the hive grows the frames farthest way from the colony will be filled with pure honey , yours for the taking. Simply lift them out, brush off the bees and take them in for eating. We have been manufacturing a Cypress TBH for about two years that we thought was a pretty nice design until we showed our TBH at a local Bee College meeting. It was there we met Wyatt A. Magnum PhD, a noted Professor, author and a 1000 plus TBH beekeeper of 40 years. Wyatt stopped by our booth and was impressed with out craftsmanship but our hive was lacking some of what he felt we the more important points. After a short conversation we decided to completely redesign our hive (with his permission) to include all of his tips gathered over his lifetime of TBH beekeeping while maintaining the quality and of our own ideas he felt were really good. What we ended up with was what we feel is the finest most user friendly TBH on the market today. It is crafted of handpicked US grown Cypress. Cypress is naturally resistant to bugs and rot unlike the more popular choice of material, pine. Painting or staining a Cypress hive is only a matter of preference and does not need done at all, it will weather to a beautiful silver over time. The main body of our TBH comes  assembled using box joints and is sanded to a beautiful , almost furniture like finish. The top is also assembled creating a unique tapered effect enhancing the "curb appeal" of the hive. Features unique to our TBH include: Solid Cypress Construction Viewing Window and Stingless Rear Feeder Screen Bottom with a pull out tray to check for mites Entrance hole placement developed by Wyatt A. Magnum PhD Notched Top Bars for self alignment in the hive Grooved Top Bars will handle installation of included Starter Strips or natural beeswax (not included) UPSable design, little assembly required with included hardware
