Desaga MC2 / Heraeus Biofuge Pico Centrifuge + Rotor ** Tested ** Read This auction is for a Heraeus Biofuge Pico Centrifuge, which was rebranded and marketed as a Desaga model MC2. All components, electronics, operation, etc. are identical to the Heraeus branded unit, with the only difference being the labeling. Includes Heraeus model 3324 rotor, as pictured. Please read description thoroughly & completely, to ensure you understand exactly what you're buying. Very clean former university property, it powers up fine & passes self test, and displays software version 047-8 and RAM version 104-1, before going into ready mode, as shown in photos below marked 1-3. All panel controls operate correctly and lid lock/release mechanism is good. Has range settable from 2000-13000 RPM, with duration from 1-99 minutes, as shown in photos marked 4-5. Without the rotor installed, it operates perfectly and runs through any set program properly, ending with automatic braking of the motor (photo 6). However, with the rotor installed, it still spins up fine at any RPM setting and runs fully through whatever time has been entered, quietly & smoothly, but when timer reaches zero, it shows an E8 brake resistance error code (photo 7) and doesn't brake. You then need to cycle power to clear the E8 code and wait for the rotor to stop spinning on its own, at which time the br-0 code (photo 8) goes away, and the lid can be released and normal operation resumed. From what I was told, everything was working fine until someone forgot to put the locking nut on the rotor and spun it without. The rotor shows signs that it rubbed on the bottom & top from getting loose, so because it works fine without the rotor, I suspect the rotor may now be out of balance causing the E8 error, but I don't have another rotor to check my theory. Included is a switchable on/off power strip (bottom photo), so you can just cycle power to the centrifuge from there, rather than reaching around to the back of the unit every time, although hopefully a different rotor will correct things and you won't have to bother with that. For the extremely rare occasion (maybe once in the last 10 years) that damage occurs during shipping, it will be the responsibility of buyer to initiate and pursue a claim with the shipping company, normally Fedex. Items are described as accurately as possible and if said to be tested and working, then you can be assured it will ship that way. If sold "as is", buyer assumes all risk of any untested problem that may be present, with all sales final. I will NEVER auction something with known issues, without mentioning them in the listing, but I buy lots of equipment and sometimes acquire pieces that I either don't have the expertise to test, or don't have other equipment on hand required to perform testing, so occasionally have no choice but to sell those items "as is". Auctions are always "what you see & read is what you get", so if something is not shown in photos or described in text, such as interface cables, power cords, software, etc., it's probably not included. If upon delivery a problem is found that contradicts any statement made on auction and buyer decides to bypass a damage claim with the shipping company and instead return merchandise directly to me, then they will be responsible for return shipping cost along with a restock fee equal to 20% of bid amount, neither of which is refundable. I will then inspect and test merchandise and issue a refund if complaint is justified & serial numbers match.
