Detectron Scintillation Counter The Detectron Model DS-234 "Sintillatron" is a scintillation counter originally offered for uranium prospecting. It consists of a power package with the batteries and electronic power supply and a gun portion that contains the scintillation crystal, photo-multiplier tube, amplifiers, controls and meter. A four-foot cable connects the two parts. The power package is usually strapped to the belt. It has six ranges of 0.025, 0.05, 0.25, 1, 5, and 25 mR/h. and used a 1.5" x 1” sodium iodide crystal. The unit uses one 67.5 volt, two 30 volt and three 1.5 volt batteries. The battery box is 3.25" x 5.25"  x 5-1/2" and the probe is 4" x 12" It sold for $467 in 1955. In good condition except for the insulation on the wiring that leaves the pistol grip. The battery box is clean and corrosion-free. The condition of the scintillation crystal is unknown. The electrical operating condition is unknown. A copy of the DS-277 schematic, believed to be identical to the DS-234 schematic except for the number of time-constant settings, will be provided as a PDF file on CD-ROM.
