Diethyl Malonate, a.k.a. DEM, or Ethyl Malonate, or 1,3-Diethyl Propanedioate, is the diethyl ester of malonic acie. It is a slightly oily colorless liquid that occurs naturally in apples (where the name came from), grapes strawberries, and many other fruits. It is used in making candle and soap fragrances, and is also used to synthesize a wide range of organic compounds such as artificial flavorings, barbiturates, vitamin B1 and B6. Why make it (as suggested by Youtube) if you can buy it so cheap here? This will save you a lot of grief and guess work. It gives you peace of mind knowing that this is the real thing. Diethyl malonate, CAS Number: 105-53-3 Molecular Formula: C7H12O4  Molecular Weight: 160.17 IUPAC Name: 1,3-Diethyl propanedioate
