Early 1800s Two Story 25 x 30 Hand Hewn Oak Dovetail Corners German Cabin This cabin is an unsual 25 by 30 feet, which is very large for being from the late-1700s to early 1800s.  It is a full two stories with an attic that is nearly 11 feet at the peak, which would make for ample room for a bedroom on the third floor.  The cabin is hand hewn oak with dovetail corners and extremely wide logs, measuring an average of 10-12" and up to 17"! Another rare feature is that the ceilings are unsually high for a cabin of this age, measuring 8.5' downstairs, and 7.5' upstairs. You will see in the photos that there are beams that come out of the front of the building.  Those were the floor and ceiling joists to a second story porch.  They can be cut off, but we left them in the event someone did want to build a second floor.  There were also several hundred feet of original flooring that was able to be salvaged as well as the porch columns.  This cabin was sold and rebuilt on our lot in order to make some aesthetic changes.  At that time, all repairs and replacements were made, so this cabin is ready to rebuilt and in excellent condition. Our recommendations for aesthetic purposes: Fill in two upstairs doors Fill in the two center doors on the front (north wall) Fill in the fireplace opening on the east wall Adjust windows on the west side to make them even heights Includes log walls floor joists for second and third floors original rafters dismantling, tagging, printing & loading 850 square feet of original footworn heartpine flooring What other materials will I need? If you are creating a structure that you want to remain a “period” piece, we offer a wide variety of reclaimed materials ranging from flooring to beams to ceiling boards.  Most clients will use reclaimed materials in these projects, although it is not necessary.  Once the frame is standing, standard building materials are acceptable and most general contractors can perform all the work involved in taking this project from the shell to the finished product.  Reassembly prices available upon request.
