Note to ebay: This is not a hazardous material. These are pebbles, small rocks, not unlike those pesky ones that get stuck in your shoe and bug you for like five hours until you finally give in and go through the ordeal of removing it. This item is shipped in compliance with USPS Publication 52, and is a natural mineral specimen, as it is clearly defined in 49 CFR 173.426. Over 121.625 scaled CPM if poured out as measured with a 44-9 static uncomped pancake at 852 volts. #1 pancake probe used (standard 44-9 pancake probe.) this is grated so no chunk will be smaller than 50 mm; meaning an n 99 respirator will work well if wou have any reeeeeeeeally weird stuff planned for it. this is the minimum grate i can get while avoiding dust as determined bu a vacuum particle counter. It makes experimentation very easy! Each pebble is hot enough to use as a check source, this bottle can provide operational check sources for a dozen counters. I am recommending that you keep the bottle as is; because it makes a really cool gamma source even in the bottle and counts over 10,000 CPM on an Ludlum 44-9 probe equivalent for all measurements (832 volts, anti-saturation off, Bicron/Thermo standard dead time compensation unless counts are under 200,000/minute). The relatively low gamma output (although it is easily detected with the CDV 700 probes) means minimal proximity hazard. 17,225 om a CDV-700 with LND 25 probe. The other vials of ore I have found or sampled from eBay are not even close to this; this stuff is quite literally 100 times stronger (or more) of a radiation emitter than anything else I have seen in a vial or small container that is labeled as uranium ore. This is left from processing high grade mineral samples; and is considered mid grade natural ore. This product was originally intended for a few folks who were requesting samples with high surface area and extremely high alpha counts for alpha spectroscopy. It turns out to be popular all around. This was during the Northern California sweep by the EPA to clean up tailings, and I am overjoyed to give people access to something they would otherwise never see or even hear about. Feel free to ask questions! Enjoy!
