Genius FirstTemp infrared tympanic thermometer 3000A This infrared tympanic thermometer unit has a base with a compartment for holding 21 disposable plastic sensor covers (not included). The thermometer takes a 9V battery (not included). There's an LCD, a cover eject button, a scan button, and a mode button. The plastic casing of this unit may have a few small chips and cracks in it but these are cosmetic defects only and don't affect the unit's functioning. A borrowed battery was inserted and the unit was used to read the temperature of the palm of the hand. We had many examples of this model of thermometer and all of them read within a degree or two of 30 degrees, suggesting that this unit is functioning correctly and that only minor calibration is needed, if any.
