Glas-Col TM118 Thermal Reactor   For sale- a large Glas-Col Thermal Reactor.  I say Glas-Col, as you can see there is a Glas-Col TM118 Heating Mantle at the heart of the system.  But I have no idea if they were the ones responsible for putting the rest of this reactor together.  It may well be that it was custom constructed and the Glas-Col piece is simply the only thing on it with a brand name other than the H.S. Martin glassware and the Graham Transmissions electric motor.   The Graham motor was installed on top of the metal frame when I bought it, but I picked it up in a cube van and the motor had to come off just to fit inside the cube.  The metal frame, on casters, measures just under 70 inches tall by 30 inches square.  The motor is 1/3 HP and with the right angle transmission attached it is very heavy, so I never bothered to try to get it back up and mounted on top again.  When in place it would turn the plastic (maybe nylon?) shaft which as you can probably see terminates in a propeller-style mixer inside the glass vessel.   When I put the motor down on the lower frame I didn’t take note that I had it upside down, so it leaked out some oil, pretty thick stuff as I recall.  So it will need to be topped off.  I did plug it in and it does turn and the speed is controllable with the Graham controller mounted to the frame.  That is the extent of my testing and NO warranty is offered.   HOWEVER, IF you pay the asking price and find it has a problem you cannot live with within 14 days of receipt you may return it.  Returns are ONLY allowed on Buy It Now Purchases.  Accepted Best Offers are strictly an as is sale, no returns allowed.  Return would be for a refund of the purchase price, not including shipping costs which will be substantial.   Just so that we are clear on that, this is an item that has not been thoroughly tested.  As such it may work fine or it may have problems, so any purchase entails a certain degree of risk.  If you Buy It Now your risk is limited to the shipping costs both ways.  If you submit an offer you do so knowing that you cannot return it.  In either case it is up to you to decide whether the risk level is acceptable to you, and if not you need to pass on this particular item.   I have had this piece for quite awhile, and unfortunately I buried it in a corner of the warehouse that doesn’t see the light of day very often.  Plus I had no idea what to call it.  I just happened to be researching Glas-Col products and came across a recently sold thermal reactor, and that was all the motivation I needed.  So when you look at the pictures and see some thick dust accumulated in places, that’s why.   If you look at the pictures of the top of the reactor there is one hole that does not have anything installed.  I have no idea what was there, sorry.  I do have one piece of glassware that came with it, a distillation device, but I am not certain it goes to the system and in any event one of the small tubes sticking out is broken.  That is on an unpictured piece, not what you see offered here.  I don’t know that it is related but I will be happy to include it at no extra charge.  Maybe you can have it repaired if it belongs to the reaction system.  Or at least know what to look for in a replacement.   Despite the dust the thing could almost pass for new.  I am guessing it was put together for an experiment that didn’t pan out and then sent to surplus.  Look how shiny the copper tubing is inside the thing.  If that spent any time submerged in a heated liquid I would have thought it would have turned brown or green.  Or both.   It did not come with the Glas-Col wiring, so I can’t test that even if I thought that was smart which I don’t.  Short of filling it with water to absorb the heat I can’t see any way to know if the heating elements work.  But I would be shocked if they didn’t.   Please feel free to ask questions but I really don’t have a lot to add to what is already posted here.  Please check out my other listings for more interesting lab, test, and optical equipment.  Check back often!   Sold as is, as described, as pictured.  Potential buyers are asked to please make sure you have read the listing carefully, and understand what you are buying.  Ebay’s condition codes for used items, which I am now required to select from, might imply a degree of functionality that my limited time, knowledge, and facilities do not allow me to ascertain.  If the functional condition of the item is known it will be stated as such in the listing.  Unless a warranty is specifically offered returns are not accepted regardless of any implied functionality.   You are also encouraged to visit my “ME” page, where my terms, conditions, and philosophy of doing business are outlined.  I don’t think anything there is outside the bounds of normal e-commerce, but they are binding on the transaction.   Shipping will be motor freight on a pallet unless you would like to come pick it up.  I would estimate the shipping weight at around 250 pounds but “dimensionally” it is much heavier.  So much so that I am not even going to hazard an estimate on this one.  I will be happy to quote you for the shipment, but I need to know the zip code, residential or commercial, and whether a lift gate will be required.  And I will have to wait for the sales rep to get back to me.  I could do it online but then I might well over (or under) charge you, so unless time is critical I will have to wait for them to tell me what the cost will be.   Shipping will be via Old Dominion Freight Lines, which has done a consistently good job getting my shipments where they are going without roughing them up.  If you would prefer to use another carrier that’s fine .  It will be shipping from a warehouse with a loading dock in zip code 22943, but I do not live there!  I require pickup confirmation the day before and your carrier must provide an emailed printable copy of the Bill of Lading so that there is paperwork available for the driver to sign when he gets there.  The BOL should have all the info filled out when I receive it, blank copies are unacceptable.   I can ship this to Canada via Old Dominion, but they do not offer customs brokerage services, so you would need to have your own customs broker lined up before it shipped.   Alternatively I can perhaps deliver the thing myself depending on where you are and what time of year it is.  But that is not a freebie, I would be asking basically the same as the freight quote but then I wouldn’t have to bother prepping it and at least you would know that it would get there without freight damage.
