In the early 1900s, when highly skilled machinists enjoyed the same status and prestige as computer programmers do today, Machinery magazine was essential reading for any industrial executive. Industrial Press, the publisher, approached the most erudite master machinists they could find to write a series of booklets on various specific aspects of machining and manufacturing operations. These booklets were jam-packed with the practical knowledge, hard-earned know-how, and "shop kinks" learned over the lifetime of the foremost machinists in the world. In 1914, these booklets were consolidated into the first edition of Machinery's Handbook, which has remained the world's premier handbook for the metalworking trades for nearly a century. A first edition of Machinery's Handbook sold on Ebay in May 2002 for over $200. Until now, many of the booklets that were published as part of the series that was the origin Machinery's Handbook were almost as rare. Nation Builder Books is proud to begin reproducing a number of these previously rare booklets nearly a century later.
