Overview The ZIP 2 is an IP phone that supports two call appearances and can be used for any business or residential application. Based 100% on open standards, the ZIP 2 uses SIP for call control, making it compatible with Windows Messenger and any IP phone system that uses SIP.The phone is powered by an ac adapter and has a web interface that permits rapid configuration. The phone is available in white and black. The ZIP 2 offers great value when used in conjunction with a PC based software program that can interact with the phone. Ergonomics  The ZIP 2 has the appearance of a traditional telephone set. Every standard feature is readily accessible using one of 16 buttons and keys. For example, to place a call on hold, the user simply presses the Hold key. Two LEDs indicate useful information such as an incoming call or voice mail messages waiting (MWI).  Voice Features  The phone fully supports all commonly used PBX features. These are easily accessed and simple to use. One or two key presses access redial, transfer, hold, and conference functions. The ZIP 2 supports conferencing with three people. The conference is easily set up with any combination of inbound and outbound calls.  Unconditional call forwarding provides an effective means of redirecting calls to an alternative destination. This feature is engaged quickly with two key presses and the entry of a phone number. If a user does not wish to be bothered by incoming calls, a do not disturb (DND) function can be quickly enabled. When call forwarding or DND is enabled, an LED provides an indication to the user.  The ZIP 2 also supports paging, which means important announcements can be played over the speaker of the phone. The Voice can be encoded using uncompressed G.711 when operating on the LAN or in a network where adequate bandwidth is available. For lower bandwidth applications, compressed G.729A format is supported. To improve voice quality the ZIP 2 provides adaptive jitter buffering, which smoothes out the timing between. Key Features  - Cost effective business or residential telephone - SIP based – will operate with any standard IP phone system - Supports transfer, conference, hold, and redial - Two call appearances support two simultaneous calls - Speech quality ensured by QoS at the Ethernet layer - Supports VLAN tagging - Buttons and keys for all commonly used functions - Two LEDs provide easy indication of status - Easy to deploy with no need for set up by end user - Speaker allows hands-free dialling - Supports SIP Digest Authentication - Web interface and TFTP support for easy configuration - Available in black Data Features  By default, the Ethernet port is an untagged member of a single VLAN, so the ZIP 2 can interoperate with any network. Full support for IEEE 802.1q VLAN tagging and IEEE 802.1p QoS settings allows the ZIP 2 to provide enhanced quality of service functions at the Ethernet layer. This ensures it is compatible with any network, new or old. The ZIP 2 can be configured to operate in a SIP network that requires digest authentication. The authentication mechanism utilizes a username and password specified for the phone. This means of verifying devices is often used by service providers that want to guarantee security in their network. For residential applications, simple traversal of UDP through NATs (STUN) is supported on the ZIP 2. The ZIP 2 can use STUN to learn a proper public IP address to use for its SIP and voice communications.  A backup proxy can be specified on the ZIP 2 to provide a high level of redundancy. This allows for outgoing calls to be redirected to an alternative SIP server when a primary SIP server fails. The ZIP 2 can also register itself with the alternative SIP server, so that it continues to receive incoming calls.
