Despite some surface corrosion that occurred after a mouse took up residence in the case, the machine continues to run smoothly with all adjustments in good working order. The only known issue is that two small metric flat head screws and washers are missing, which hold the throat width adjustment plate on one side. The Makita 3803A timber frame groover features an 18mm cutter that produces finished grooves from a 4 3/4" diameter three-sided cutter. Its cutting depth can be easily adjusted up to a maximum of 1 7/32" using the knob. The tool also comes equipped with a large rear D-handle for better control and an electric brake that ensures safe operation. Log home builders will appreciate its versatility, with the option to choose from a range of cutters that allow for cutting widths from 3/8" to 1 1/2". This groover was purchased from Timber Wolf Tools in 2000 and remains a highly effective tool for cutting long grain grooves in green timber.
