Microm HM500 OV Cryostat Microtome Refrigerated Laboratory Cryotome w/ Vacuum Bio-Med Certified Until 2017!! ~~ PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES ~~ The Microm HM 500 OV Cryostat is a standard, stainless steel rotary microtome cryostat. This unit features a universal micro/macro feed system and a user-oriented modular design, enabling the system to meet the individual needs of any laboratory. The Microm HM 500's low-noise cooling system can bring the temperature of the work area down to -31°C [see photos]. The fast freezing station can even go as low as -45°C with no frost on knife carrier, microtome or chamber walls. The unit comes with an automatic defrost timer. The stainless chamber is pristine. The lab that had this unit took pride in their equipment, and this unit shows it. The flourecent light works perfect, and the glass slides easily. There are no cracks in the glass, and there is no frost accumulation anywhere inside the chamber. Nice piece of equipment! TEST RESULTS: I powered the unit on and set the Chamber Temperature to the lowest possible setting, which is -40*C. I set the Object Temperature [Speciman Temperature] to -45*C and waited for the system to reach operating temperatures. It took approximately 5 hours for chamber to reach working temperature, which was -31*C by the systems LED indicators [see photos]. The Object Temp was reached rather quickly, in under 5 minutes, and held at -45*C. Rotating the crank registered a slice on the counter, and activated the vacuum system. The vacuum is fully adjustable, and makes for a much cleaner working environment. All menus are able to be navigated as indicated by the LEDs. The glass top is clear, clean and stays free of frost. I ran the unit overnight with no issues. No actual speciman testing has been performed.
