Mushroom Culturing Kit: This kit includes everything you will need to isolate a mushroom culture. Simply fill up the Mason jars to 500mL, add one packet of potato dextrose agar (PDA), stir, autoclave and your plates are ready to pour. This is Fisherbrand PDA- don’t be fooled by others on the internet that offer homemade PDA made of instant potatoes and agar from the grocery store. This is high quality, lab grade materials that will return the investment 10 times over in quality cultures! Kit Includes: ·        2- packets of premeasured Fisherbrand potato dextrose agar- simply add each packet to 500mL of distilled water. Each packet makes enough PDA to pour 10 petri plates. ·        2- vented mason jars containing polypropylene- the jars have an injection port as well if you would like to use them for grain jars ·        20 sterile petri dishes- 100mm x 15mm ·        10 feet of Parafilm-M for sealing petri dishes A little about culturing mushrooms… Isolating your mushroom cultures on petri plates is a great way to ensure that you have a robust culture before you transfer it to your grain jars. You can sterilize the outside of a store bought mushroom in a 10% alcohol solution for about 3 minutes. Spray down your work surface with a 10% alcohol solution and wipe down. Using a sterile razor blade, cut the mushroom in half. If you don’t have a flame to sterilize the blade, you should prepare multiple blades. Take a small piece of the inside of the mushroom and gently set it in the middle of a PDA plate. I usually do about 5 cultures. Allow the culture to grow for about a week, any cultures that have any contamination should be discarded. ****Order multiple orders and combine shipping!!!!****
