Newport ESP7000 Universal Motion Controller/Driver For sale- a Newport ESP7000 Universal Motion Controller/Driver. The controller is in good physical condition as I think you can see in the pictures. HOWEVER, it has two issues that will probably require repair for it to be usable. Both may be related to the power supply, which appears to be modular. First, although the unit does power up, the display does not appear to be on (more on that momentarily). Second, although the controller does power on it tends to switch into Standby mode after awhile. Awhile can be anywhere from 30 seconds to several hours later. I might ordinarily theorize that it was going into Standby mode because it wasn’t hooked to anything or because there was no activity. But the shutdowns have come as I am actively trying to work the unit. And when I first got it they were almost always within the first minute of powering it up. It wasn’t until I had repeatedly powered it up that it started staying on longer (sometimes). That allowed me the opportunity to notice that the display in fact was on, but it wasn’t backlit. So I took some pictures of it with the lights out at night and as you can see it would appear to want to work, it’s just not doing a great job of it. In normal room light you can’t see the display at all. And yes, I did try adjusting the display. Contrast worked just fine, backlighting produced no visible effect. Perhaps it needs to be hooked up to a computer, looking for a computer input. I doubt that is the case. But it may well be that the backlighting simply isn’t getting what it needs from the power supply and so it can’t come on. Replace the power supply and perhaps the display issue is resolved as well? Pure speculation on my part. The only other issue I noticed was that when I navigated into the various menus on the thing I couldn’t figure out a way to get back out. Pressing the MENU button, which I would have thought would have taken you back to the main menu, that did nothing and as I recall did not get an audible confirmation when the button was pushed. So it may have other issues, which is why I am selling it for parts or repair. It has three 25281-01 boards mounted in the back; I assume each controls a single axis, and I also assume that if you bought them from Newport that you would pay more than I am asking here for the whole machine. Untested other than as described and pictured, sold as is, and NO warranty is offered. However, IF you pay the asking price and find it has a problem you cannot live with within 14 days of receipt you may return it. Returns are ONLY allowed on Buy It Now Purchases.
