This completely new design from the seller's previous clock kit is based around an Atmel AVR mega88 microcontroller which is a pre-programmed chip that comes with the kit to minimize part count and simplify construction. The kit features 6 digit nixie drive (hh:mm:ss), dekatron drive (2 patterns, selectable), Chimes (2 modes, selectable), alarm clock mode, 12 or 24 hour display, neon colon drive, and battery powered RTC (Real Time Clock) to keep the time during power outages. The clock can use the AC line frequency or its on board crystal for its timebase. The Nixie tubes dekatron are not included in the kit and can be purchased separately from various sources available, both on eBay and elsewhere online. The nixies do not mount directly on the board, but connector locations for nixies and dekatron groups are provided so that users are not limited to certain types of tubes.В While an optional HV switching supply is necessary to generate the 170V needed to power the nixies, this board already includes one. However, it is only good for tubes such as the IN-12 and IN-14, or smaller. A connector location is provided for an external supply if larger tubes such as the IN-18 are used. The preferred input voltage is 9VAC, but anywhere between 7VAC to 11VAC will work. The current draw will vary depending on the nixie tube used, but the absolute minimum is 1 amp and a 2 amp wallcube may be necessary for IN-18s.
