PANTONE Color Formula Guide 747XR Fifth Printing 1988-1989  In 1987, the PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM 747XR publications were introduced, expanding the palette to 747 colors (XR referred to 'extended range'). This saw the first introduction of four-digit PANTONE Colors, which were inserted chromatically between the original colors and assigned four-digit numbers for differentiation. At this time, the extended range of fluorescent colors was removed, as they were considered trendy and not worthy of continued presence in the palette. The fluorescent palette was reduced to the seven base colors, PANTONE 801 through PANTONE 807. In addition, four additional lightfast base colors were introduced, PANTONE Yellow 012, PANTONE Orange 021, PANTONE Red 032 and PANTONE Blue 072. These colors were offered as substitutes for PANTONE Yellow, PANTONE Warm Red and PANTONE Reflex Blue for increased lightfastness, but were not directly used in formulation of other colors. The "must have" guides for designers, printers and color decision makers – now with 84 brand-new Pantone colors! PANTONE is the only internationally recognized color communication system. You can specify PANTONE Colors with confidence even if your manufacturing is half a world away. NEW now sells for $149
