PLOCHERE SYSTEM Guide to Color & Color Harmony 1948 1st Ed BOOK & 1965 Card Set This is one of many great vintage & antique items we're currently listing from various estates. Please take a look at our store categories and merchandise. You are bidding on: Rare 1948 First Edition/First Printing PLOCHERE COLOR SYSTEM in Book Form & 1965 Boxed Set PLOCHERE COLOR SYSTEM Color Card Set in Leatherette Case The Plochere Color System, a color system formulated in 1948, is widely used by interior designers & architects. The large three ring binder book is a rare 1948 First Edition / First Printing. It pre-dates the PANTONE color matching system  Created by Gladys and Gustave Plochere in Los Angeles in 1947/48 ~ the oversize binder contains an index & 39 pages of 'Formulas for Mixing Colors'. The highlight is the 1248 colors represented in size 1" x 2". There are 52 plates ~ each with 24 swatches of beautifully named color shades. These are the same colors as contained in the Plochere Color System in boxed form ~ with the 1248 color cards in size 3 x 5".  These 3 x 5" cards are all contained inside a leatherette carry case. The boxed set, with accompanying book, dates to 1965, while some of the brochures and paperwork also stored inside the case date to the early 1970s. Both this book and this boxed set of color samples were created before Plochere came out with a greyscale supplement ~ so there is no greyscale contained in either the 1948 spiral bound book or in the 1965 boxed set of color samples. There are a few problems to note: In the 1948 spiral bound book ~ some of the 1x2" color swatches are beginning to come loose. The first page of 24 swatches have all come loose and are stored inside an envelope. They need to be tacked back down to the page with paste, glue, or rubber cement. Nothing, however, is missing from the entire volume. All the other pages are fine ~ but each time one swatch pops off a page I've been tacking it down with a tiny bit of glue stick. In the 1965 card set ~ some of the 3x5" color cards have a small sample cut from the corner or edge. This was only done to a very small number of the 1248 cards. Also, one group separator tab (1001-1100) is missing. Book Measures 11.5 x 13 x 2" thick Boxed Set Measures 16.5 x 6.25 x 5" tall Condition: Very Good + to Excellent Condition. Some swatches in book are loose or coming loose. Some swatches in boxed set have small samples cut from the 3 x 5 cards.
