This is an old Royal Scintillator model made by Precision Radiation Instruments - their top-of-the-line for such devices. This thing is about as old as I am (created in the mid 1950's), and was part of the national craze after WWII for uranium hunting to supply the booming atomic bomb industry. Makers of Geiger counters marketed whole prospecting kits, with shovels, compass, hats, and everything you need to go out into the desert and strike it rich. The deluxe package even included a jeep! A scintillator is a really fancy Geiger counter. But you knew that. The exterior of the carrying case is in very poor condition. The handle is untrustworthy, and had been repaired. Somehow the interior is intact, albeit a bit smelly like mildew.  The canvas bag surrounding the instrument case is intact, but also smelly. The wooden instrument case is banged up on the outside, with some abrasion and staining, but solid. The inside is in very good condition.  The face of the instrument is in good condition, with some wear around the knobs from use. The lens is clear, and all knobs are intact and tight. The cylinder has scuff marks from the straps in the case. Otherwise, it is undamaged. (Pretty durable, I'd say!) The cord is in good condition, a little stiff, but still pliable. The end connections appear to be sound. Thankfully, the previous owner removed the batteries before storage, so the inside is clean and free of corrosion.
