This beautiful 1st Printing 2 volume set published by the Harvard University Press in 1922.  The contents of this work were the lectures written and delivered by D.B. Updike,   as part of a course on the Technique of Printing in the Graduate School of Business Administration of Harvard University, between the years 1911-1916. In addition to being on Harvard faculty, D.B. Updike was the founder of the Merrymount Press in Boston, Mass in 1893 committing himself to the publication of books of superior beauty and quality.   This set came out of the estate of a gentleman who was an engineer, letterpress printer, student of BookArts and book collector. He lived a life of excellence and care.  These books remain in excellent condition, each volume  in excess of 300 pages.  The black cloth binding shows only minor shelf wear. The edge of the pages facing the top when the book is closed have been gilded.  There is a bookplate of the previous owner inside the front cover of each volume . The spine is strong and intact in each volume. The pages show the slightest yellow of age, but are clean, flat and all intact.  No odors. This work has been well cared for over 100 years and with the same care will easily grace the libraries of generations for centuries to come of those interested in keeping the beauty of Topograghy, LetterPress  and BookArts alive. Thanks for looking.  Questions are welcome.
