It is still in good working condition.  Great for students or professionals.  Comes with the following: Flash writer w/ paper tray ProCAT USB Key Tripod Mini Keyboard to edit and control laptop from the Flash Writer One PC Memory Card 2 MB SRAM Stenocard reader unit Power cord Realtime Cables Pengad Professional Wheelie Case - with a separate detachable pack on the front Features ·         Contrast Adjustable Satin Finish LCD with Real Time Display of notes. ·         Easily modify the keys' touch to your personal writing style, with an easy adjustment of depth of stroke and tension ·         Provides easy menu navigation through convenient display buttons. ·         Real-time connectivity with any CAT system through ProCat or Baron mode ·         Over 24 hour battery life ·         Operates in paperless mode if needed ·         Weighs only 5.1 lbs ·         Time stamping ·         Scroll forward or backward through a note file ·         Each card will hold over 1500 pages ·         Extremely fast translation  I don't think this machine will need reconditioning, but it would probably benefit from a professional cleaning since it's been sitting unused (in its case) for a few years now.  Doesn't come with ink cartridge, so you'd need to buy that separately. Lighten your load with the new Flash™ writing machine from ProCAT. Tipping the scales at just 5.1 pounds, the Flash is loaded with more features than the hefty, higher-priced competitors. Streamlined and built for speed, the Flash gives you realtime display, steno search, and steno scroll for readback. Powerful flash RAM technology lets you store 786 pages on a slim credit-card size disk. Plus, you can work up to 24 hours on a single battery charge. The Flash can upload software in the field, so sending your machine in for updates is a thing of the past. Other features include electronic marking, a screen with adjustable contrast, and a long-life ink cartridge. The Flash is available in burgundy, slate gray or smoke blue. Call today for more information on the new Flash writer from ProCAT. It's light, fully featured, and very competitively priced. The way I typically start a realtime session is to connect the writer to the computer, start the software of choice, and select Start Realtime Session from the Translation menu ... and then turn on the writer. Once the writer's startup sequence is done, stroke a key or two ... and it shows up in the CAT software! Did you catch that? I started a realtime session while the writer was turned off ... and it worked! Well, what if you need to take a break? Simply turn off your writer, and when you turn it on later, your realtime session resumes as if nothing happened. Need to take your writer into another room, but can't take your laptop? Simply disconnect your writer's realtime cable, take your writer wherever you need to go, come back, reconnect the realtime cable, and resume writing. If your laptop didn't go into standby mode, your realtime will work as soon as you hit a key on your writer. The following is from ProCAT's website on the Flash: "Creating solutions that meet users' needs is our goal. Our users asked for a machine that has a long battery life, reliable storage media, economic price, and is lightweight. So we created Flash. Flash is one of the fastest growing writers. It is designed to meet the needs of our clients -- court reporters. Its battery life is three to four times longer than the competition; it weighs less than half that of the lightest writer; and it uses the reliable flash memory technology. Flash is the only electronic writer that uses the Flash SRAM technology for storage of notes. It also comes with an easy-to-read LCD screen and six function keys. The function keys are provided to allow the users to configure the writer. Memory: Unlike the competitor, ProCAT has always used solid-state memory for storage of shorthand notes.  We find the memory technology to be more reliable and faster than a 3.5" floppy diskette.  Flash uses PCMCIA memory cards for the storage of notes. Weight: The Flash writer weighs only 5.2 lbs.  It is by far the lightest writer on the market. Battery: The most unique feature of Flash is its battery life.  A Flash, fully charged, offers as much as 24 hours of operation time (actual writing time).  That is by far the longest battery life offered by any writer. Carrying Case: Professional Pengad and Wheelie case. Realtime Protocol: One of the unique features of Flash is its instant realtime transmission capability.  Unlike the competition's polled protocol, Flash uses an instant data transmission.   We have optimized Flash to give you the best realtime performance.  Storage Capacity: Comes with one memory card that holds 1500 pages of transcript. Storage Format: The memory cards are formatted in a "PC" readable format (FAT).  Therefore, you can use the PC-Card slot in your computer to read your notes from a card into the hard drive. Stenotype Mechanism: Flash is based on the mechanical stenotype technology offered by the competition.  What makes Flash unique is its state-of-the-art electronic circuitry. LCD: The Liquid Crystal Display in the Flash is positioned at the most readable angle.  It is perfect for immediate read backs. There is also a contrast knob that enables the user to adjust the screen (if needed).   Search: The LCD displays the steno notes clearly, and allows the user to scroll back or search for a specific outline. Functions: Using the function keys on the Flash a user may perform several diagnostic features, format memory card, search for steno, or enable or disable user options.  The ProCAT Flash originally sold for $3500.00.  A refurbished Flash sells online for $895, $995 and up to $1,995 without the Professional Wheelie case, mini keyboard, or realtime cables. The used value for this bundle is $1,351 by checking online prices. This is a great value purhase.
