14 years ago, my mother-in-law came to live with us. Recently widowed, she left her house as it was, came to Oregon and said she was never going back home. We told her we would pack her house up, pack EVERYTHING, and bring here for her to sort through at her pleasure.  Her house was much like a museum, she was an avid and well known antique dealer and collector in Los Angeles in the mid to later 1900's.  We moved over 700 boxes of items from her house, along with many pieces of furniture. 1 of her pieces has been on the Antique Road Show.    I built a 7000 sq. foot building to accommodate all her collections. She never opened a box. She died about 7 years ago, and we have just begun the process of going through the boxes ourselves.  It is an arduous process. Some items will go to concession dealers, some are given away, some things donated, some are kept and some things are offered here.   I used to write a bit of the history at the beginning of each ad, I have decided to write this, and when a bit of provenance fits, I will include this introduction. These items were collected many years ago by a very sweet and knowledgeable lady. Wish she was here to tell me about each item we offer, but, I am on my own, and will do my best to describe. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------   This old pulley has sat on my front porch for a few years now. I live near a logging town on the Oregon coast. I have many antique logging pulleys and horse related tools used way back in the day.   This particular pulley is something I have never seen before. Neither has anyone else who collects these old tools around here. Every time I got a visit from one of those old coots, they wanted to buy this pulley. Or more often than not, trade me something for else. They seldom wanted to give me money for it, there are traders by nature. I always turned down all the offers. So the pulley stayed here. I like things other collectors want, and are unique, hard to find pieces. This piece is so hard to find, no one has ever seen another, tame or wild.   Toady I was looking around to see what was next on the chopping block.  I am moving to Alaska, and all the artifacts that I cannot use or have become really attached to are not making the trip. I aim to build a cabin, I am going to wish I had a big pulley, I just know it.... this one. This will be the one I need and it will gone and i will tell Mewller, the dog in one of the photos, "I wish I had never sold that pulley!".   But...anyway, here is the pulley. The pulley wheel is about 11 to 12 inches across. The over all length is about 20 inches. It weighs 31 pounds before boxing, so when you look at the shipping cost, do not be shocked. No... be awed that I can do it for so little. You are not going to find another pulley like this, so do not count pennies here.  I am hoping to re home this to a collector, but it can be used. there is nothing wrong with it, it works just fine.   You can see the pictures, so I will not go into the description much here. The long pin slides out easily, so in a sense can be considered a type of snatch block, in that you can rig a rope or cable with a loose end. The "keeper" on the pin was added by me and not old. It is there to keep the pin in place. I did not want to lose it.  You have the pulley end, the pin, and the top has a big hook. Please refer to the pictures. When I first acquired this pulley, I tried to research it and find what it specific use was. I never found anything like it. Now that it is on my mind, I may take it to our local museum. It is full of logging tools from by gone years. They may be able to tell me about it. if I find out while this auction is running, I will post it as an update.   There is a "C-12 on the pulley wheel. There looks to be a date on the hook part of this piece. I seem to remember it being 1860 or something like that. I could see it better when I was cleaning the pulley for display.   I did include a picture of the embossed numbers, see above.   there you go, all I know at this time. If you have any questions, please ask.   If you live closer to me and the shipping cost is less, once I process the shipping label and know the actual cost, I can issue a partial refund if that is the case. Ebay takes 10% of shipping paid by a buyer. Yep, Ebay needs a finger in every pie, even from what it takes us to ship the item.       --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  Shipping is for USA lower 48, all other addresses will be calculated. Because I am a returning seller to Ebay, your feedback is important to establish trust with future buyers. I would very much appreciate pos. feedback once you receive the item and are satisfied with your purchase. Thanks. I started selling on Ebay when Ebay was new to the world, and was a great place to offer unique items to a broad audience. Then, the monster of greed came, and Ebay transformed into something I disliked, a lot. I quit selling using Ebay. I was a gold seller, I had 1000's of great feedbacks, a couple of negs ( I have learned some people are impossible to please).    Now, I still have a 7000 sq. ft. building, filled with 100's of mystery boxes inherited from an avid antique dealer who had a great eye. SOOO, here  I am again, and just relearning the "new" Ebay. The fees have risen (Ebay even takes a precentage of shipping charges!), and the marketplace has changed, but, it still offers a larger audience than I can find elsewhere. Never know what is in the next box!
