Hard to find EXTRA DEEP Vintage Letterpress Type tray or drawer. If you have wanted a type drawer to re-purpose but the depth wouldn't allow you to use them, here is your opportunity to make a real showpiece. Vintage Full Size Hamilton Extra Deep Figure Case. Ornate Cast Iron Hamilton Handle. This drawer measures approximately 32 1/8" x 19 3/8". The "legs" are about 2 7/8" so the drawer proper is 16 1/2". The handle adds another 3/4". Interior depth of the drawer is about 1 5/8" while the outside depth is 1 15/16" on the sides and back while the front is 2 1/16". The drawer originally had nine equal size compartments per side (18 total). Each of the smaller square compartments are about 4 7/8" by 4 7/8". The largest compartment in the left side is about 14 7/8" wide. The mid size compartments (1 in each side) are about 9 3/4" wide. In the left side, 3 dividers have been removed. The right side is missing 1. Note the dividers are about 1 1/2" tall in this drawer. A standard type drawer of this vintage has dividers that are about 1" tall. So extra deep means really extra. This drawer has a Hamilton Maker's mark and a New Departure Patented (see photo) stamped on the top of the center frame board. They are badly worn. The bottom is plywood. The interior of the bottom is lined with paper. The handle is cast iron. There is a brass label holder to the right of the handle. On both sides of the handle there are four tack holes that apparently went with some sort of labels (usually a metal plate). They were lost long before we got the drawer. We cleaned the outside of the face with wood cleaner and wiped the rest of the frame with a cloth moistened with tap water. We used a damp 1" foam paint brush to wipe the bottom of the large compartment in the left side (see last photo for comparison). The paper is intact if you want to save it. We will remove the handle for shipping (we will wrap it and place it in one of the compartments). Great drawer for your collection or your imagination to create a masterpiece.
