RF WATTMETER-BRIDGE Type RFWB This is a vintage piece of old electronic equipment. It is stamped US Dept Agri- Forest Service. This is a Type RFWB RF Wattmeter-Bridge. The item does show some use, the backside is scratched heavily but no deep gouges or rust. The dials are in great condition. All markings are still very readable. TheWatts meter glass is unbroken, chipped or marked. All of the plug in's are tight and the cords are undamaged. It includes a padded wooden case which shows some dirt and scratches, the handles are tight and the latch still works fine. A nice piece of equipment for a collection or to work on vintage equipment. An RF bridge is a piece of test equipment and is used only for testing and must be taken out-of-line for normal operations. The term "bridge" dates back to what was welll known as a "Wheatstone Bridge", although back then, it was mainly used at DC and low audio frequencies. The bridge is fed RF power at the desired frequency and if the termination impedance matches the design impedance, usually 50 ohms in RF work, then the detector device reads a minimal output value (usually called a ‘null'). In practice, the actual power that is fed to a ‘nominal 50 ohm load' is 6dB down from the level actually applied to the input terminal of the device. Having a 6dB attenuator in-line all of the time is not an efficient way to utilize an antenna. In addition, an RF bridge operates with low levels of RF, typically down around +10dBm to +20dBm (or 10mW to 100mW of RF power). They cannot be used at high power levels because the resistors used to make up the "bridge" at microwave frequencies are typically physically quite small and have a very low power rating.

“This is an old RF Wattmeter-Bridge Type RFWB, this unit shows sign of use in the field. Outer case is scratched and nicked, nothing to damage the unit. (see pics). The cables are all intact, the dials and gages are in working order. The wooden box has dirt and smudges on the outside but is still in good condition. The latches and handles are tight and still work.”
