Schlage D70PD Plymouth x 626 C key 2-3/4” backset. What does this mean in plain English… Schlage is the manufacture of this lock. Walter Schlage invented and manufactured this lock in San Francisco, California. D= The series of the lock. It is the heaviest lock that they make. It is a Grade 1 lock. It has been tested for 1,000,000 cycles. It is designed for commercial applications and for people that want the best for their home or business. It makes a statement when you have these locks in a residential setting! 70= the function, or how the lock operates. This is known as a “Classroom function” lock. This lock is always unlocked on the inside for egress (exiting or leaving). To lock/unlock: insert the key and turn it 360 degrees. If it only turns 180 degrees it is not “timed” correctly. There is NO button on the inside, the locking/unlocking is done only with a key from the exterior knob. P= Pin tumbler cylinder. This is a 6 pin cylinder. It is a C keyway. D= Dead latching latch. The dead latch is the small half-moon piece laying alongside the large main latch. When the door is shut the latch falls into the strike plate (metal plate on the door frame) and the dead latch lies on the strike plate dead bolting the latch from retracting. This is to stop somebody from slipping something between the door and frame and pushing the latch back and opening the door. Plymouth= Is the shape of the knob. This is the most common knob style. It looks like a squished baseball. Backset: Is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the 2-1/8” mounting hole. Other backsets are available from 2-3/8”, 3-3/4”, 5” and any other dimension you want/need. Due to the age of this lock it has the small “T” strike rather than the large ASA/ANSI strike. I can provide the large strike upon request. This lock is complete with all parts, fasteners, tool and instructions. It is in the original box which is in good shape, not pristine but good shape. The knobs have a bit of oxidization on them. This finish is very durable and will clean up nicely or just leave it alone and it will clean up with just normal usage. The lock will accept a Primus high security cylinder or any of the aftermarket cylinders that are the same dimensions as a Schlage cylinder. So you can make a Sargent, Corbin, Falcon, Yale or any commercial key work in this lock. I am in the trade and can answer any question about this lock or its installation or your installation.
