Schlage D70PD Novo x 612 C key 2-3/4” backset. What does this mean in plain English… Schlage is the manufacture of this lock.  Walter Schlage invented and manufactured this lock in San Francisco, California. D= The series of the lock. It is the heaviest lock that they make. It is a Grade 1 lock. It has been tested for 1,000,000 cycles. It is designed for commercial applications and for people that want the best for their home or business. It makes a statement when you have these locks in a residential setting! 70= the function, or how the lock operates. This is known as a “Classroom function” lock. This lock is always unlocked on the inside for egress (exiting or leaving). To lock/unlock: insert the key and turn it 360 degrees. If it only turns 180 degrees it is not “timed” correctly. There is NO button on the inside, the locking/unlocking is done only with a key from the exterior knob. P= Pin tumbler cylinder. This is a 6 pin cylinder. It is a C keyway. D= Dead latching latch. The dead latch is the small half-moon piece laying alongside the large main latch. When the door is shut the latch falls into the strike plate (metal plate on the door frame) and the dead latch lies on the strike plate dead bolting the latch from retracting. This is to stop somebody from slipping something between the door and frame and pushing the latch back and opening the door. Novo= Is the shape/design of the knob. This is similar to the most common knob style-Plymouth. It looks like a squished baseball with concentric rings in the knob and rose. It is a very cool vintage piece. 612: is the finish (color) of the exposed parts. It is called Satin Bronze. it was the "in" finish in the 50's. Classic understated design and finish. Backset: Is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the 2-1/8” mounting hole. Other backsets are available from 2-3/8”, 3-3/4”, 5” and any other dimension you want/need. Due to the age of this lock it has the small “T” strike rather than the large ASA/ANSI strike. This lock is complete. It is in an original box, not its' original box but very close, which is in good shape, not pristine but good shape. The lock has a very small amount of paint on the outer edges of the roses, which looks like it will come off fairly easily. I did not remove it. The strike shows some surface wear which is normal. The dead latch does not match the 612 finish and is a 613 Oil Rubbed bronze finish. It will work correctly, just not a match. A correct latch is obtainable, but I do not have it. The lock has a polished brass cylinder plug face. This is a very cool plus as they have not done this for 50 plus years and this one looks nearly new. The lock should be serviced. This entails taking the lock apart and removing all the old dried up grease and putting new grease in it. If this is done the lock will work like the day it left the factory. A half ass fix is to spray some liquid lube in the lock. This lock deserves better treatment. I will service the lock for a fee. The lock will accept a Primus high security cylinder or any of the aftermarket cylinders that are the same dimensions as a Schlage cylinder. So you can make a Sargent, Corbin, Falcon, Yale or any commercial key work in this lock. I am in the trade and can answer any question about this lock or its installation or your installation. Please ask questions up front as I do not take returns unless I have grossly misrepresented this lock. I can match the lock to your key or supply a different keyway if requested. I will combine shipping on multiple purchases.
